Puzzle enthusiasts and competitive spirits alike will converge at Waystone Brewing on Saturday as the brewery's beloved monthly puzzle race event returns for another round of brain-teasing excitement.

Located at 2101 W. Wadley Ave. Suite #27 in Midland, the event kicks off at 11 a.m. and promises an engaging challenge for participants of all ages.

The theme for April's puzzle race revolves around butterflies, with teams tasked with assembling a 500-piece puzzle featuring North American butterfly species.

The competition promises to be fierce as teams race against the clock, vying to be the first to complete their puzzle and claim the coveted title. The winning team will not only earn a game from Waystone’s collection, but they'll also receive tokens that are redeemable at the bar, age permitting.

Jaylyn Morehouse, owner of Waystone Brewing and the creative mind behind the event, expressed her excitement for the return of the puzzle race. "It's become somewhat of a culty following," Morehouse said. "Spots have been known to fill up within hours of signup being open."

Reflecting on the origins of the event, Morehouse said, "I came up with the idea while researching board game stores prior to opening and couldn’t let it go. I knew I wanted to incorporate it into the business somehow."

Participation in the puzzle race requires teams of at least four to six individuals, and is popular among friends, family members, and colleagues. Morehouse noted that completion times typically range from 30 minutes to an hour, adding to the atmosphere of the competition.

Morehouse said that the true essence of the event lies in the shared experience of facing a challenge with friends. "For a lot of the participants, it’s less about winning the race itself but rather that they really enjoy going through the experience together and connecting over it," she said.

Even Morehouse herself, despite her integral role as event host, finds joy in participating alongside her family.

"My kids are puzzle wizards, and I do enjoy doing them too but more at a leisurely pace," she said. "I don’t know if I am a puzzle racer!"

With its blend of competition, camaraderie, and creativity, Waystone Brewing's puzzle race has firmly established itself as a must-attend event for puzzle aficionados and casual gamers alike.
