Hostage situation unfolds in Midland: Mayor Blong thanks community for support

Midland Police Department responded to a barricaded subject and hostage situation at 3700 Edwards St. in Midland. 

Mayor Lori Blong issued a statement expressing gratitude for the community's support during the situation. She highlighted the efforts of local churches and citizens who have stepped up to assist those impacted by this incident that took place at Sundance Creek apartments.

"I want to thank Midlanders who have reached out to me to see what they can do regarding the hostage situation in our community," Blong said. "Also, the churches that are stepping up with ways to help those who are temporarily being displaced are a huge lift and a great way to help our fellow neighbors!"

Acknowledging the collaborative efforts between the city and Midland County, Mayor Blong emphasized the importance of teamwork in providing assistance to those affected by the ongoing situation.

"We are currently coordinating with Midland County to coordinate assistance to those who are being displaced," she said. "This teamwork will go a long way in helping those that are being affected by this incident."

Mayor Blong commended the law enforcement agencies involved in the operation, highlighting the joint efforts of Midland Police Department, DPS, the FBI, and Odessa SWAT to ensure the safe resolution of the hostage situation.

"Our police department is working with DPS, the FBI, and Odessa SWAT to continue the work of getting the hostages out of this situation unharmed," said Blong.
