The local trash service is currently facing challenges due to a shortage of garbage trucks, impacting their ability to efficiently collect waste in the community. According to a spokesperson from the service, "When things are running smoothly, our whole fleet consists of 27 trucks out in the field." However, the situation took a turn for the worse as "on Monday we only had nine garbage trucks in service."
Despite the difficulties, there is a glimmer of hope as the spokesperson mentioned, "The good news, we now have 15 trucks working." The shortage of trucks has been attributed to difficulties in acquiring parts, with the spokesperson stating that "Getting parts for our trucks has been an issue because of a nationwide shortage."
As a result of the truck shortage, the trash service has had to make adjustments to their collection schedule. The spokesperson noted, "This week, we were only able to pick up residential trash once a week." However, efforts are being made to prioritize certain locations, with the spokesperson adding, "We are trying our best to pick up trash at commercial locations and apartments twice a week."
To mitigate the impact of the truck shortage, the trash service has increased their operational hours. "We are working at least 12 hours a day, six days a week to get done as much as possible," the spokesperson explained. Despite the challenges, the service is appealing for understanding from the community, stating, "We ask that you please be patient with us."
Looking towards the future, plans are in place to address the truck shortage. The spokesperson expressed optimism, saying, "We are hoping to have four new garbage trucks soon in the next two weeks and seven by the end of the year." This strategic initiative aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of waste collection services in the community.
