Midland Independent School District (MISD) is installing protective film on all exterior doors across its schools. This specialized film is engineered to make the glass shatter-resistant, significantly impeding unauthorized access attempts by potential intruders.

The primary function of the film is to prevent the glass from easily breaking, maintaining its integrity even under forceful impact, such as being shot with a bullet or struck with a baseball bat. This initiative aligns with the broader efforts of educational institutions nationwide to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.

This safety measure is not a direct outcome of the passage of the MISD 2023 bond, and there are no specific criteria determining which schools receive the protective films. The installation process covers all schools within the district, emphasizing the commitment to a uniform approach in enhancing security measures across the board.

The installation of shatter-resistant film is a statewide requirement for all school campuses.

This initiative is consistent with MISD's strategic plan, which places a strong emphasis on implementing comprehensive school safety enhancements.

The anticipated timeline for the completion of the installation is later this spring. As Midland ISD continues to prioritize measures through their strategic plan, the installation of shatter-resistant glass film is a proactive step in creating secure and safe learning environments.

MISD’s strategic plan includes creating learning environments that prepare students for meaningful opportunities post-graduation, retaining and recruiting high-quality staff to continuously improve operations and instruction, and cultivating trust and partnership through meaningful communications with the entire Midland community.
