The 2023-2024 Midland Entrepreneurial Challenge (MEC) concluded last night after awarding five Midland businesses their share of $500,000: Tall City Sneakers ($75,000), Sable Controls ($100,000), Tall City Speech, LLC ($100,000), MORPH Health Optimization ($100,000), and Pachuco’s ($125,000).
The challenge is a six-month business boot camp competition that awards local entrepreneurs with funding. After the three rounds of competition, five businesses were selected as finalists. At the beginning of the challenge last year, over 400 businesses signed up for orientation with 62 businesses registering to compete in the challenge.
The Midland Development Corporation funds the challenge. UT Permian Basin administers the challenge with support from the Small Business Development Center. An independent panel of judges scores the business plans to select the winners.
The Midland Entrepreneurial Challenge will have a direct and positive economic impact on Midland by creating jobs and bringing revenue into the city.
