Midland ranked 327th of 344 cities across the nation for people working from home, according to SmartAsset.com.

The financial advice website showed Midland near the bottom of the rankings with 5.5% of workers working remote. That percentage is nearly one-third of the national average (15.7%) and ranked second to last in West Texas. Odessa showed 3.8% of its workers were remote and ranked second from the bottom across the country.

This study considered 344 of the largest U.S. cities with populations of 100,000 or more, SmartAsset.com reported. The website also showed data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 1-Year American Community Survey for 2022 and that cities were ranked by the percentage of those who worked from home out of all workers aged 16 and over.

Other West Texas Cities included El Paso (ranked 276th with 9.2% working remotely), Abilene (292nd and 8.3%), Amarillo (327th and 6.3%) and Lubbock (328th and 6.3%).

“With the most recent U.S. Census Bureau designating the average commute time to work across large cities at 25 minutes, remote workers may save four hours per week or more compared to their in-person counterparts,” the report stated.

Mean travel time for cities across West Texas included 14.7 minutes in Abilene, 16.4 minutes in Lubbock, 18.6 minutes in Amarillo, 20.1 minutes in Midland, 23.4 minutes in Odessa and 24.2 minutes in El Paso.
