Speech Pathologist Tanya Lujan said that when a patient gets a frenectomy, their speech impediment is not immediately fixed, and they need speech therapy because their tongue still doesn’t move.
“A frenectomy is like releasing a rubber band: the tongue is free,” said Tanya Lujan on a recent edition of the Best of Midland Podcast. “But then the tongue doesn’t know what to do, because the tongue is free and it’s still not gonna move.”
“The muscle and the brain are like ‘my tongue is still tethered, I can’t move it’,” said Tanya Lujan on the Best of Midland Podcast. “So then they need rehab, just like you would get rehab for a knee or an arm or anything else.”
Tanya Lujan is a speech pathologist and entrepreneur. She owns West Texas Speech in Odessa Texas, as well as a restaurant called Fuego West Texas, which is also located in Odessa. Tanya also competes as a bodybuilder.
