A 37-year-old man lost his life early Saturday in the northern part of Midland, a death that the Midland Police Department attributes to an act of self-defense. The officers were alerted and dispatched to the 1400 block of Daventry Place at 4:09 a.m.

According to a press release from the Midland Police Department, officers responded to a call concerning a disturbance involving weapons. The police reported that the suspect had forcibly entered the victim's residence "by force with a rifle." In what was described as "an apparent case of self-defense," the victim reportedly subdued the suspect using a chokehold.

The suspect was discovered dead at the scene upon the arrival of the officers, as stated in the Midland Police Department press release. He was later identified as George Samuel Butler, aged 37.

In response to this incident, both the Crimes Against Persons Unit and the MPD Crime Scene Unit were notified and arrived at the scene, according to another statement from the Midland Police Department. Butler's next of kin has been informed about his demise. The investigation into this matter is still ongoing.
