A vision is coming to life as Summit Center of Midland takes shape, aiming to be more than just a space but a community hub where the simple joys of life can be savored. The Summit Center is located on the north side of Midland at 3200 Mockingbird Lane and encompasses 20 acres, featuring a four-acre park encircled by office spaces, retail establishments, and dining options. The mission behind Summit Center is about embracing the outdoors, being active, and appreciating the little things in life that are often taken for granted.
“The vision and purpose behind the creation of Summit Center was to give the Permian Basin Community a place of fellowship to allow everyone to enjoy the simple, but amazing things God has gifted us with,” the Summit family told Midland Times when asked about the creation of the center.
At the core of Summit Center's mission is a commitment to providing an opportunity for the community to come together, offering a space to focus on the fundamental aspects of life with family and friends. Leveraging the reach of Instagram, Summit Center plans to connect with the community by keeping them informed about special events, markets, corporate gatherings, live music, and even weddings.
According to the owners, Summit Center's purpose extends beyond just buildings; It is a broader commitment — “It is our way to care for our neighbors and give back to the hard-working community that has blessed us,” they said.
Summit Center is designed to be a haven for families, incorporating nearly 400 trees, lush plantings, elevation changes, distinctive architectural elements, event venues, and a unique natural playground for children. The thoughtful design includes spacious 11-by-22-foot parking spaces, perfect for SUV’s and pickup trucks, all while prioritizing low water consumption and sustainability.
The center will feature symbolic elements such as a tree and three crosses, embodying deeper meaning and carefully considered aspects to further support their mission. The park being completely encircled by buildings and fences and free from vehicular traffic ensures that Summit Center is a safe and relaxing space for families to spend quality time. The goal is to make it a place where families can spend an entire day, enjoying both nature and engaging activities.
The anchor tenant, Summit Petroleum, is joined by an array of businesses that share the mission of enhancing community life. Renewed Strength Fitness, Twelve Gate Coffee with both dine-in and drive-through options, Providencia (a new concept from Cancun Grill), Creperia A&I, an upscale Irish Pub, offices, pickleball courts, and potential build-to-suit options promise a diverse range of experiences within Summit Center.
Despite facing some typical weather and construction delays, the progress of Summit Center remains on track for a grand opening in early summer of 2024. According to the founders, the local community has shown tremendous support, particularly the immediate neighbors who endured the inconveniences of construction noise and blowing dirt.
The Grand Opening is anticipated for early summer of 2024 and promises an event for the entire community. Summit Center is not just a business venture; it's a commitment from the Johnson and Woodard families, along with the dedicated men and women of Summit Petroleum, to uplift the community and provide a lasting space for enjoyment.
As the project nears completion, it is poised to be one of the premier destinations in Midland, contributing to the region's cultural and recreational landscape for years to come.
