The Midland Police Department has initiated an operation to address speeding and enhance road safety. The program, named Operation Cruise Control, seeks to decrease accidents and encourage adherence to traffic regulations.

According to a Facebook post by the department, motorists are urged to drive safely and respect speed limits. "Midland Police is taking the lead in promoting safer roads with a new initiative called Operation Cruise Control," the department said. "This program aims to reduce speeding through voluntary compliance, improving traffic safety and reducing accidents in our community."

Sergeant Michael Wilson emphasized the city's commitment to the Vision Zero Initiative, which focuses on identifying and prioritizing roadway safety projects aimed at significantly reducing and eliminating serious injuries and fatal crashes on Midland's streets and county roads.

"The goal is to eliminate all traffic fatalities by 2050," Wilson said in a video accompanying the Facebook post. He noted that several intersections have been identified as having higher-than-average crash rates resulting in injuries or fatalities. Wilson added that if individuals are speeding in Midland, there is a high possibility of police contact as part of Operation Cruise Control. He urged motorists to slow down and take care of one another while on the road.
