The Slaton Independent School District (SISD) is requesting prayers after four athletic trainers were injured in an accident near Andrews. The trainers were traveling in an SUV to a football game in Kermit when the collision occurred on October 27.
In a post on social media, the district expressed its gratitude to Andrews Medical Center for taking care of the injured staff. They also thanked the people of Andrews for their prayers, food, and drinks. The district also extended its appreciation to everyone who has kept the trainers in their thoughts and prayers.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a semi-truck collided with the district's Ford Expedition SUV. The driver of the semi-truck was also taken to the hospital with injuries. DPS cited the motorist with failure to yield the right of way at the stop sign. The accident is currently under investigation.
Despite the incident, Slaton's football game with Kermit went ahead as scheduled. The Slaton Tigers emerged victorious, securing their second consecutive win. Prior to this, the team had endured a 19-game losing streak until their victory over Lamesa the previous week. SISD is located approximately 110 miles northeast of Midland.
The Slaton Independent School District is grateful for the support and prayers from the community and is hopeful for the recovery of their injured athletic trainers.
