Authorities have identified the individual who was shot at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) as he allegedly attempted to drive a large front-end loader tractor towards a group of police officers. The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Jeramiah David Hall, and he now faces a charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer.
According to the city of Odessa, Hall's bond has been set at one million dollars. The city made this announcement in a Facebook post on Oct. 23.
Citing UTPB, the city also mentioned that additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses. It has been reported that Hall was involved in another incident prior to the shooting. On Oct. 20, he allegedly attempted to enter a concert at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center without a ticket. He was asked to leave the venue.
Shortly after the concert incident, police spotted Hall at the university's engineering building. When they approached him, he fled the scene. According to reports from Odessa ABC station KMID News and FOX affiliate KPEJ News, Hall was later seen riding the tractor in question and came into contact with UTPB and Odessa police vehicles.
Police ordered Hall to stop, but he allegedly continued operating the tractor and headed towards the officers. In response to the perceived danger, five UTPB officers opened fire on Hall. He sustained multiple wounds and was subsequently treated by police before being transported to the hospital. Hall is currently listed in critical condition.
Fortunately, no one else was injured during the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed against the suspect.
