The Midland Independent School District (MISD) has four high school students who have earned recognition from the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). Amulya Ganta, Fiona Li, and Ryland Matis from Midland Legacy High School, along with Nnenne Nnanna from Early College High School at Midland College (MC), were each recognized as Commended Students by the NMSP.

"Being selected as a Commended Student is a particularly remarkable accomplishment to add to each student's college application portfolio alongside the AP Scholar Award with Distinction that each received in July," said Judy Bridges, MISD Director of Advanced Academic Services, in a press release on October 11th. "Midland ISD wishes these young people well in all their future endeavors. Congratulations to all."

To be honored by the NMSP, students must score among the top 3% of all students nationwide on the Pre-SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The NMSP, founded in 1955, is a non-profit organization that operates without taxpayer dollars. It is a yearly academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships, with over 3.5 million students recognized and approximately 470,000 scholarships worth nearly $2 billion awarded since its founding.

The four students will be recognized at the MISD Board of Trustees' meeting on October 16th.
