In recent efforts to improve accessibility, Midland Independent School District (MISD) has implemented a new nomination process for its Gifted and Talented program.

The new nomination process is open to all students residing within the Midland ISD attendance area, with no limitations on whether students attend public, private, charter, or home school, according to a press release on the Midland ISD website. This Gifted and Talented program is intended for students in kindergarten through grade 12, including Carver Center.

"This new application process through Project Education simplifies the process for all families," said Advanced Academic Services Director Judy Bridges in the release. "Families who have applied in the past will immediately notice the changes. Parents of applicants will receive additional information regarding testing in early November.”

According to the release, interested students who are currently in grades K-11 are able to submit their applications throughout the month of October 2023. The application form can be found on the MISD G/T & Advanced Academics webpage. Late applicants will not be accepted, so families need to apply before the deadline.

All students who are nominated will undergo an assessment to determine their eligibility for G/T placement. The results of these assessments will be shared with families in mid-February 2024, according to the release.

According to its website, Midland Independent School District has been providing education to the students of Midland County, Texas, for over a century. Situated in the central area of the country's largest oil-producing region, MISD provides nearly 28,000 students with opportunities that ensure their future post-graduation. From the initial pre-K days to graduation, MISD aims to support students throughout their academic journey.

For further information or inquiries regarding the G/T nomination process, families are encouraged to reach out via email or visit the MISD Gifted and Talented/Advanced Academics website.
