The reigning Class 3A softball state champion Coahoma Bulldogettes were given rings to commemorate their first title in 25 years. The Coahoma Independent School District (CISD) expressed their gratitude to the sponsors, parents, and community for their support throughout the years. The team's achievement was celebrated in a ceremony where they were honored for bringing home the state championship title.
The Bulldogettes secured the 3A crown in June with a 4-2 victory over Santa Gertrudis, as reported by Odessa ABC affiliate KMID News and FOX station KPEJ News. Interestingly, many of the players on the current roster have mothers and close family members who were part of Coahoma's previous state title squad in 1998, making it a meaningful connection between generations.
Looking ahead, Coahoma head softball coach Alex Orosco is already focused on the upcoming championship defense. Orosco expressed his excitement about the potential for another ring, stating, "You know what's better than one ring? It's two rings," according to Odessa NBC affiliate KWES News.
One player to keep an eye on in the Bulldogettes' pursuit of their third overall title is junior pitcher Hannah Wells, who has committed to the University of Texas at Austin (UT). Wells played a crucial role in last year's championship run, amassing an impressive 239 strikeouts and an impressive .038 earned run average (ERA) as a sophomore. She also excels at bat, boasting a .602 batting average, according to Midland Times.
Coahoma Independent School District is located just 11 miles east of Big Spring, Texas.
