Scott McKown has been announced as the new police chief for the Midland Independent School District (MISD). McKown, who has been working within the school district police department for 23 years, has developed a good rapport with MISD officers, campuses, and district leaders, as well as outside law enforcement agencies. He most recently served as a Lieutenant and interim Chief.
According to CBS7 news, McKown brings 30 years of law enforcement experience to the role. He started his career with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, worked for the Monahan’s Police Department for five years, and then spent 23 years at the ECISD Police Department before joining the MISD PD in August 2023. McKown holds a Bachelor’s of Applied Arts and Sciences in Business and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Texas Permian Basin.
As the new police chief, McKown will report directly to superintendent Stephanie Howard. The Midland ISD Police Department has a focus on the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors of campuses. They investigate criminal offenses occurring on campuses and assist with safety and security concerns as needed. The department also utilizes electronic policing and camera surveillance technology to control access to campuses and visually monitor them.
With his extensive experience and established relationships within the school district, McKown is well-positioned to lead the MISD Police Department and ensure the safety of the Midland ISD community.
