UTPB's Spurlock lands on prestigious list of women in academia

University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) Senior Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Becky Spurlock has been recognized by Women We Admire as one of the Top 50 Women Leaders in Education in 2023, according to a UTPB Facebook post. Spurlock and the 49 other women who were selected received the honor for their accomplishments helming educational institutions across the U.S.

“Finding a career in higher education has provided a purpose and direction for my life that I never imagined,” Spurlock said in the post. “To be honored for the work is icing on the cake. I’m thrilled to share this recognition with so many incredible leaders from across the country who are making a difference in this field every day.”

As one of UTPB’s leaders, Spurlock is in charge of the Enrollment Management teams consisting of Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Registrar's Office, and Online Programs. She also oversees Student Affairs, Student Success, and the Shepperd Leadership Institute teams, as well as has an appointment as an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership in UTPB’s College of Education.

UTPB President Dr. Sandra Woodley expressed her support for Spurlock, stating that she is "so deserving of this recognition." Woodley added, "UTPB is lucky to have such a passionate leader who always puts students first. We are thankful for the work she does every day to ensure that students have the best experience at every stage in their journey – from recruitment to career."

According to Spurlock's LinkedIn profile, she has been in academia for nearly 20 years. She joined UTPB in July 2019 as the university's vice president for student affairs and leadership, and was promoted to her current position in August 2022.
