The Midland Independent School District (MISD) announced that it’s streamlining the nomination process for its Gifted and Talented (G/T) program in an effort to simplify the application and assessment process for students and families.
"This new application process through Project Education simplifies the process for all families," Judy Bridges, the Permian Basin public school district’s advanced academic services director, said in an October 3rd press release. "Families who have applied in the past will immediately notice the changes. Parents of applicants will receive additional information regarding testing in early November.”
Students from kindergarten to 12th grade can pick up an application and have until the end of the month to submit it, MISD said. The application process is open to all public, private, charter, and home school students residing in the MISD attendance area. The district cautioned applicants late submissions won’t be accepted.
MISD will host a series of information sessions on the process and the benefits of G/T programs throughout the month. Carver Center at 1300 E. Wall St. will host elementary meetings on October 10th at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., October 11th at 5:30 p.m., and October 19th at 5:30 p.m. A secondary meeting will be held at Midland College Advanced Technology Center at 3200 W. Cuthbert Ave. on October 12th at 5:30 p.m.
MISD will screen every nominated student to determine whether they’re eligible for placement in G/T programming, with the results to be released in mid-February, the release said.
