The Ector County Independent School District (ECISD) Board of Trustees extended Dr. Scott Muri’s superintendent contract; Muri is now under contract until June 2028.
After a September meeting, CBS7 noted that school board president Chris Stanley spoke on behalf of the board when praising Muri's educational acheivements.
"We are pleased with our district's academic growth and the visionary leadership he has brought to our schools," Stanley said. "By voting to extend his contract, we are sending a strong message of support regarding the direction of our district."
Muri has served as the superintendent of the Ector County Independent School District since July 1, 2019.
He has extensive experience as a superintendent of large school districts; before his current role, he served four years as the superintendent of Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston. Both Ector County ISD and Spring Branch ISD are similarly sized, with budgets around $300 million, student enrollment around 35,000 and number of employees around 4,600.
Muri has also served as the deputy superintendent of academics in Fulton County Schools in Atlanta, Ga., and the area superintendent and zone superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, N.C.
Statistics for academic achievement and school district accountability ratings in the Ector County ISD have significantly improved since Muri has been the superintendent.
In 2019, when Muri started, the district’s overall growth score was 59 (F), but just three years later in 2022, the score was up to 85 (B).
Numbers like these are evident across the board, with individual schools seeing record amounts of improvement.
In 2019, only three schools in the district earned an A and six schools earned a B. In 2022, however, seven schools earned an A, 12 schools earned a B and five of those B-rated schools were previously rated F. Rather than being in one aspect or geographical area, the improvement was notable across the district.
