Dr. J.C. Ausmus, new assistant dean of student wellness at UTPB | UTPB Facebook post

The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) announced the appointment of Dr. J.C. Ausmus as assistant dean of student wellness in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and assistant professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences in an Aug. 25 Facebook post.

“I'm incredibly excited to be able to combine my love of sports psychology and counseling with applied work and research and explore that part of my professional identity in my new role more,” Ausmus said in the post. “It will also be so exciting to get students involved in that side of my work!”

According to Ausmus’ biography on UTPB’s website, she’s an associate professional counselor (APC) in the state of Georgia, a national certified counselor (NCC), and is seeking to add a certified mental performance consultant (CMPC) credential for sport psychology to her curriculum vitae (CV).

The university’s appointment of Ausmus follows its acceptance of $10 million in grants to bolster the Permian Basin's mental and behavioral health workforce, the Facebook post said.

Ausmus told UTPB she’s delighted to be part of the faculty and staff that will provide mentorship as she helps in Counseling and Psychological Services.

“I'm so proud of how the university has decided to prioritize mental health, not only for our students but also in the Permian Basin with the new Behavioral Health initiative,” she said in the post.

Ausmus holds a doctorate from Auburn University; two master’s degrees, one from Auburn and the other from Ball State University; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky, her staff biography says.
