Midland Health and Midland College have confirmed plans to reopen the Midland College Radiologic Technology Program following a 13-year halt to fulfill local medical needs, according to a Yahoo News report.
"We are extremely excited to reintroduce the Midland College Radiologic Technology Program," Kelly Wright, director of radiology at Midland Health, said. "The program's revival underscores our commitment to bridging the gap between educational institutions and the ever-evolving needs of the medical field. This initiative aligns with our mission of leading healthcare for greater Midland."
The move comes following a rise in demand for skilled radiologic technologists in West Texas. Midland Health alone currently has 20 full-time and part-time position openings.
A class made up of 11 students kicked off their educational journey within the program on Aug. 21. The curriculum was designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in radiologic technology.
“The students will participate in classroom and laboratory sessions at the Radiology Department in the F. Marie Hall Outpatient Center (formerly West Campus),” the Yahoo report stated. “In addition, to provide a comprehensive learning experience, the students will fulfill their clinical requirements at Midland Memorial Hospital, Diagnostic Imaging Associates and West Texas Orthopedics.”
The reopening reflects the collaborative efforts made by Midland Health and Midland College.
“As the program kicks off, both organizations look forward to producing a cohort of skilled professionals who will play a pivotal role in advancing medical imaging and patient care in the Midland community and beyond,” the release stated.
