The Midland Independent School District (MISD) recently hosted its school convocation event to help faculty and staff prepare for the incoming school year. The event was held a week before the first days of school, which kicked off successfully last week, according to NewsWest 9.
The plan, explained in detail by MISD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Howard, is divided into three individual areas considered for improvement, NewsWest 9 reported. The first area covered by the plan addresses the quality of education for students in Midland.
“First and foremost is student experience," Dr. Howard told NewsWest 9. "What a student can expect and receive from an education at Midland ISD.”
The second priority is the general growth and development of MISD's community and its people.
“Our people are the number one resource that we have, and they make all the difference in the world, hence convocation, right?" Dr. Howard said. "Bringing them together and celebrating them, encouraging them and supporting them.”
The third area is to promote engagement within the community. “Engage and act with the community is the last area to really seal the deal at MISD,” according to the report from NewsWest 9.
“Tell the story of MISD and be good partners with Midland. We have to establish trust within the community," Dr. Howard said. "We want to be a district that’s transparent, that establishes trust, and that people are proud of MISD.”
The superintendent confirmed that the district is open to modifying its plans for the community, stating that “this plan does have room to change or pivot goals, if need be, depending on what's working and what's not working in that moment.”
