Mabee Foundation announces $25M grant

On July 11, the Board of Trustees for the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation announced that they will be donating $25,000,000 to the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center (PBBHC) via a press release. The Chair of the Foundation, John W. Mabee. In, said in a press release from July 11 that the gift celebrates the 75th celebration of the founders and is a reflection of the principles of John and Lottie Mabee.

“The JE and LE Mabee Foundation was established with the intent of supporting worthy organizations in the communities where the founders lived or worked. This special grant reflects the values of John E. and Lottie E. Mabee and the board is proud to continue supporting their legacy. The Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center will fill a long-standing void by providing quality mental health resources for the entire region,” JE and LE Mabee Foundation John W. Mabee said.

According to a press release issued by from Midland Health on July 11, the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation made a $25,000,000 capital gift to the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center (PBBHC) as a way to honor the 75th commemoration of founders John and Lottie Mabee. The new name for PBBHC's main building will be the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center.

According to the press release, Russell Meyers, President of PBBHC, said, “With this extraordinary gift, the Mabee Foundation has made a profound statement about the importance of bringing high-quality behavioral health services to the Permian Basin. We are incredibly grateful to receive this grant, placing us one giant step closer to providing this much needed service to the residents of our region.”

According to their website, the Mabee Foundation, founded in 1948, helps to fund projects located only in the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and New Mexico. Since its creation, the Foundation has donated over $1.5 billion. Their mission is to support non-profit organizations by funding new construction, renovations, and helping them acquire major medical equipment.

According to Foundation Center, J.E. Mabee, a wealthy oil operator and rancher, founded Mabee Petroleum Corp. and established a foundation with his wife. During their lifetime, they generously donated millions to support education, medicine, and charitable causes. After Mr. Mabee's death in 1961 and Mrs. Mabee's death in 1965, the foundation became the primary beneficiary of their estates, including shares in Mabee Royalties and Mabee Investments.The $25 million donation from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation to the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center represents a significant step forward in addressing the region's mental health needs.
