Midland tennis player Cameron Newton ranks in Boys’ 16 bonus points bracket in week ending Jan. 7

Cameron Newton of Midland finished 1,380th in the United States Tennis Association’s Boys’ 16 bracket in the week ending Jan. 7.

They have zero bonus points having earned zero in the last week.

Their ranking rose by 27 from the week before.

There are 43 USTA players from Midland across all age categories.

Players earn points per round in tournaments, winning higher points the further into a tournament they advance.

Jarett Cascino of New York Tennis Magazine says tennis is one of the most competitive youth sports.

“There is always someone better than you on any given day, even if you are the number one player in the world!” he said.
