Midland Independent School District (MISD) will hold its first intersession between Monday, Oct. 18 until Thursday, Oct. 21, to give students a boost.
Instructional hours for elementary will be from 7:45 a.m. until 3 p.m., and both junior and high school will have instructional hours from 8:40 a.m. until 4 p.m. during the four-day period.
"Its purpose is for campuses to provide opportunities to support student learning and academic growth," a Midland ISD webpage said.
According to the webpage, Midland ISD's campuses will work to support identified students per HB4545 and offer them intervention sessions in reading, math, EOC English I and II, and algebra I. PK-12 enrichment sessions will also be provided for students on a first come, first serve basis, or by application.
Sessions will be attended by students for the full day with the exception of high school students, who can attend half day for EOC English I, II and Algebra I or a full day for both.
High school students also have the option of "credit recovery, PSAT courses, EOC’s enrichment, college applications, STEM camps, Princeton Review, and FAFSA completion," the website said. The SAT/PPSAT Princeton Review Test Prep is Oct. 18 and 19 from 8:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.
Students grades 8-12 can also apply to be part of the Go For Launch! Intersession Program, a series of three events, and the overall winner will have his or her experiment flown to the International Space Station, a release said. The program is multiday and works to promote "Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), STEAM (Art), teamwork, communication, and leadership," the release said. Applications are due Sept. 27.
Formal invitation letters for the intersession were sent out to students on Sept. 20, the school webpage said. Program beginning and ending times may be adjusted depending on feedback.
