Midland Development Corporation (MDC) has appointed Sara Harris as its new executive director as she takes on the former duties of John Trischitti III, who will depart from the company as of May 15.

"I'm looking forward to working with new Midland Development Corp. Executive Director Sara Harris in the years to come," State Sen. Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo) said. "MDC does important work to help grow our economy and give families an opportunity to thrive."

Harris began her tenure with MDC in 2015, serving in various roles, including director of operations/chief financial officer. The Texas Tech University graduate will now oversee the company’s effort to assist Midland residents and create business opportunities in the area.

Trischitti is set to return to the education industry. During his time at MDC, he contributed to the 2020 Regional Business Summit, an incentive deal for the expansion of Texas Tech Health Sciences Center ‘s Physician Assistant Program, and the Midland Downtown Farmers Market, among other accomplishments. The executive, who has led the company since 2019, will now explore other education, literacy, and community partnerships and opportunities.

“During my time at the MDC, I have focused on raising awareness of Midland’s needs at the state and federal level, obtaining vital support for education, infrastructure and economic diversification,” Trischitti wrote in a release. “I am eager to return to my roots in the realms of education and literacy as I continue to nurture crucial relationships that benefit Midland and the Permian Basin.”

MDC offers incentives and loan programs for business and job creations in the Midland area. Some of its achievements include the funding of an incubator and makerspace through which new businesses can stem. The establishment has also launched transportation initiatives with the City of Midland and Texas Department of Transportation to complete various development projects such as Loop 250 and County Road 1150, among other city growth efforts.
