Texas State Rep. Brooks Landgraf recognized his hometown collegiate football team on the House floor in a speech of recognition.
Landgraf's hometown team, the University of Texas-Permian Basin, recently capped off an undefeated season. In addition to recognizing the team for their efforts on the House floor, Landgraf also wore a UTPB Falcon facemask and issued a social media congratulatory statement.
On his Facebook page, Landgraf, posted, "[I'm] particularly inspired this week by the grit and tenacity of Coach Carrigan and his UTPB Falcons team after Saturday’s gutsy win to claim an undefeated LSC championship."
This spring, the Falcons were a perfect 5-0, capping off an amazing season. Their final win was a nail-biter, however, with the game going to OT on March 27 against Midwestern State. Eventually, the Falcons came out on top by a score of 22-21 after scoring 8 points in OT. That victory represented the first win for the Falcons over Midwestern State. It extended the win streak to 6 games, with 5 coming this season.
In a shortened season, the LSC did not officially award a title this year. However, the team is incredibly optimistic about the future after a solid season and several meaningful statement wins. The team was led this year by an incredibly powerful defensive effort. That defense was much-needed against a powerhouse Midwestern State offense that was among the best in the state.
The Falcons were able to take advantage of some critical mistakes made by the Mustangs offense, limiting them to just 303 total yards. UTPB was down early in the contest, but came back to force overtime and scored with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.
