A new superintendent is coming to Midland Independent School District, after the board voted unanimously to hire Dr. Angelica Ramsey, according to a district press release.
The board vote also approved her contract. She will start on Monday, Feb. 22.
"I am thrilled to be here," Ramsey said. "I will work really, really hard for Midland and together we will achieve a lot of success."
On Jan. 14, Ramsey was selected as the lone finalist for the position.
In her professional career, Ramsey lived in El Paso for a decade, working in Socorro Independent School District. She comes to Midland from Camarillo, California. There, she was the superintendent of the Pleasant Valley School District.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of the Pacific, and her master’s degree from the University of Texas El Paso. Ramsey also earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Liberty University.
There are 27 elementary schools, five junior high schools and eight high schools.
