American Red Cross Permian Basin Area Chapter issued the following announcement.

In a tumultuous year of a global pandemic and relentless disasters in the United States, people are stepping up to help others in need. For many, this includes making donations as part of their holiday traditions.

You can #GiveWithMeaning by making a tax-deductible gift at redcross.org. Every American Red Cross donation helps change lives, and 90 cents of each dollar provides care and relief in times of crisis.

This year, the generosity of donors enabled Red Cross volunteers to address people’s urgent needs when record-breaking wildfires, hurricanes and other disasters devastated families:

  • Served more than 3.6 million meals and snacks with partners.
  • Provided more than 1.3 million overnight stays in emergency lodging with partners.
  • Distributed more than 596,300 relief items with partners.
  • Made nearly 187,900 individual care contacts to help people with medical or disability needs or provide emotional and spiritual support during challenging times.
The Red Cross also provided emergency financial assistance to more than 282,500 people for disaster needs like food and lodging. Many were impacted by home fires, which account for most of the disasters that the Red Cross responds to every eight minutes in the U.S.

In addition to helping disaster victims, your donations help save lives and alleviate suffering in other ways too. With this support, on average each year, the Red Cross is able to:

  • Provide more than 513,000 services to members of the military, veterans and families.
  • Train more than 4.5 million people in first aid, water safety and other lifesaving skills.
  • Distribute nearly 6.4 million blood products for transfusion on average to help patients at about 2,500 hospitals and other facilities across the country.
  • Help more than 250 million people around the world through American Red Cross disease prevention activities and disaster services.
Please support our mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies during a time when so many people need help. You can also give back by volunteering or donating blood. Learn more at redcross.org.
