An individual's physical, mental and spiritual health are all connected and Midland Health is now offering a program called Better U, which will allow its members to receive holistic care for their overall health needs.

Midland Health said health providers that only focus on patients' physical health without addressing their mental or spiritual needs miss out on potential opportunities to help those in need live healthier and happier lifestyles, the health company said in a blog.

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine conducted a peer-review that focused on how a therapeutic lifestyle-modification program positively impacted middle-aged participants.

The program used lifestyle improvements and nutrition education to nourish the minds and bodies of volunteers, and according to Midland Health, the well-rounded self-healing approach reduced "risk factors associated with common chronic diseases."

In six months, cardiovascular disease risk factors saw a significant reduction, Midland Health said in the post.

For physical issues, a medical professional has to see their patients in-person. For those concerned about leaving their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Better U program is offered online, Midland Health said in the post. There are no fees associated with taking part in the program, according to Midland Health.

Patients can participate in the three-module program at their own pace, with each module offering videos from experts, inspirational stories, and information about reaching health goals holistically.

The modules entitled Healthy U, Enlighten U, and Empower U allows participants to challenge themselves and set their health goals by giving them access to healthy recipes, Lifestyle Medicine Center classes, and access to Fitbit, Midland Health said in the post, which will help patients monitor stress and track their heart health as they work to transform their mind, body and soul.

The Better U program is supplemental and should be used in conjunction with seeing a primary care physician.
