The Aerospace industry has been expanding its domain within western Texas, and it appears that Midland provides the ideal environment to foster innovation.
The Midland Spaceport Business Park is home to Kepler Aerospace, AST and Science and Nano Avionics, a post on the Midland Development Corporation website said. The companies have provided economic growth and potential for the Midland area, including over 200 jobs.
The executive director of the Midland Development Corporation (MDC), John Trischitti, attested to the prospects of aerospace companies expanding in Midland.
“The projections are that in the next decade, the commercial aerospace industry could be a trillion-dollar industry,” he said in the report.
Should the industry follow those projections, investing in those companies could provide long-term success for the local economies in Midland and the surrounding areas.
The InterFlight Global Corporation has collaborated with MDC to attract and expand its list of aerospace investors.
“The intention is to nurture and develop an ecosystem of companies that form a cluster,” InterFlight’s Chairman and CEO Oscar Garcia said in the post. “In turn, these companies will bring their subsidiaries, vendors and strategic partners.”
In the past several years, Garcia and InterFlight have proven to be successful in growing their team of partners.
Aerospace companies first moved to the Midland area for its open spaces, both in land and sky, the post said. Being outside of the major metropolitan areas, companies would not have to worry about air traffic from airlines and shipping companies.
Garcia praised Midland in the post as “America’s clearest and most unobstructed airspace to fly and test air and spacecraft flying fast and high.”
In addition to the open space offered by Midland’s lands and skies, aerospace companies have the opportunity to attract broader infrastructural support in both facilities and employment, the report said. As the surrounding region has historically been an area for natural gas and oil mining, local engineers already possess many technological skills that can transfer into the aerospace industry’s work environment.
