Pioneer Natural Resources this fall donated land valued at $520,000 to the Bush Tennis Center.

Located on the east side of the center, the three acres donated will be used to expand the Bush A.C.E. Athletic Center, a release from the Bush Tennis Center said.  The center will use the land for five indoor basketball courts, a 50-yard indoor turf field and a high-performance training and fitness center.

“We are extremely excited to make a donation to the Bush Tennis Center that will go towards creating a new multi-purpose athletic facility for residents of the Permian Basin,” Pioneer’s Vice President of Permian Affairs Susan Spratlen said in the press release. “Pioneer is dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and we feel this will be a great addition to the region.”

Opened in 2013, the Bush Tennis Center has hosted a wide range of tennis events from junior to professional, the press release said. Over 40,000 of Permian Basin’s children have benefited from free or discounted tennis programs from the Bush A.C.E. Outreach Program.

“The additional land donation is another way we can assist an organization that impacts the youth in our community,” Pioneer Corporate Operations Executive Vice President Mark Berg said in the release. “It has been great to see the growth and success of the center over the years, and we look forward to witnessing the additional impact and options the athletic center will offer for our Permian families.”

In 2019, the outreach program partnered with UTPB, Baylor and Texas A&M Athletics to expand its reach. Over its history of partnership with the Bush Tennis Center, Pioneer has offered support equaling $1.2 million.

“We are very grateful for the continued support of Pioneer Natural Resources,” Bush Tennis Center Executive Director Tim Stallard said in the release. “The Bush Tennis Center will now have the opportunity to serve even more of the community through the Athletic Center and the opening of Chris Davidson Opportunity Park.”
