The goal of a local nonpartisan group, Midland Students First, is to elect board members to the Midland Independent School District who "put kids first," its website states.
"We want to engage every voter in Midland to participate in school board elections and provide resources so that voters can quickly educate themselves on all contestants," the organization states.
MSF released a survey before the candidate filing deadline of August 17, followed by a Facebook Live event immediately after the filing deadline.
After the Facebook Live event, candidates received an invite to complete a candidate questionnaire. Responses are posted on the MSF website along with other information to help the public learn more about each candidate.
MSF will educate students by hosting a non-partisan student-lead candidate forum before the early voting begins. All candidates will be asked to attend and MSF will provide voter registration opportunities.
If MSF chooses to endorse any candidates, a public announcement will be made at least one day before voting begins.
MSF will not provide or participate in fundraising for or contributing to a campaign. In addition, it will not organize volunteers to help out with any candidates campaign work.
