Midland Legacy of Equality and Excellence High School is a committee's top choice as a new name for Robert E. Lee Senior High School and Robert E. Lee Freshman High School, the Midland Independent School District said in a news release.
At a meeting Sept. 17, Midland Legacy received 12 votes from the committee compared to nine for Midland Tall City School and one for Midland Carver Lee High School, the news release said.
"All three of the final names will be brought to the Board at the October meeting," the school district said.
The committee has 23 members, with two representing each school board district along with a principal, two teachers and two students.
Blake Feldt, executive director of athletics, and Shannon Low, parent of a Robert E Lee student are co-chairs of the committee.
