Cody Grebeck, a standout senior shortstop baseball player for the Midland Christian Mustangs, announced he will commit to playing college ball for the Baylor University Bears in Waco.

“I’m excited, I’m looking forward to it,” Grebeck said during an interview on the MCS Mustang Network. “I couldn’t choose a better school, it’s amazing.”

A report at perfectgame.org said Grebeck is noted for his speed and range, balance and strong throwing arm covering between second and third base. The five-foot-nine 145-pound Grebeck bats left-handed and hit for a .337 average in 2019 with 10 RBI’s, 26 runs scored and 11 stolen bases for an overall .439 on-base percentage during a run of 89 games.

Grebeck said he had offers from colleges in Washington State and Oregon, but wanted to remain in Texas.

He said his recruitment was a little out of the ordinary because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A scout from Baylor came to see him play, but Grebeck said his first glimpse of the star player was less than auspicious.

“I was the youngest player and I popped up (at bat),” Grebeck said. “But they didn’t see just that one play.”
