The Museum of the Southwest in Midland has re-opened its doors for the community to view three different galleries this month.
“Enjoy a private visit to the Museum of the Southwest’s Wagner Wing and view our current exhibitions of Lonesome Dove, Buscemi Studios: Unlocking Potential, and Largescapes: Selections from the Permanent Collection,” said the museum's Facebook page.
Guests may also view exhibitions in the Wagner Wing of the Turner Memorial Art Museum and Sculpture Garden. All other galleries and buildings are temporarily closed.
“The art museum galleries are narrow, enclosed spaces and due to the need to control temperature and humidity to protect artwork there are no windows that can be opened to increase ventilation,” the museum ticket details state.
However, visitors will have an exclusive, socially-distanced setting to view the exhibits for an hour as only one household is permitted per time slot.
The museum has reserved July 14 through 28 for members only, and non-members may begin purchasing tickets July 27 at $15 per household. Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. will be reserved for senior citizens only.
The Lonesome Dove exhibit will be on display through September 27 in the Concho Resources Inc. Galleries. These 55 framed classic images capture the imagery of the original miniseries, the Lonesome Dove, taken during filming by Bill Wittliff. The images depict art, literature and history.
Following safety measures, social distancing of six feet will be strictly implemented, gallery spaces and restrooms will be cleaned between each visit, and masks are required. Disposable masks will be available to purchase upon entry.
Members can access tickets in their Patron Portal account. Non-members can buy tickets here.
