If you are looking for oil in Texas, you are looking toward the Permian Basin.
According to the state Railroad Commission, 9 of the top 10 oil-producing counties in the state for January are within the fossil-fuel rich confines of the basin.
Taking top honors in the state are Midland and Martin counties, which were responsible for over 22.5 million barrels or 22.1% of the 106.1 million barrels produced in the state during the month. Midland County alone had 13.1 million barrels. The other seven counties in the Permian filled spots 4 through 10 and were led by Reeves County. In 2019, the state produced over 126 million barrels of oil.
The production within the basin grew since the fall. During September, there were a total of seven counties within the top 10 that accounted for 44.8% of the state’s production. In January, the Permian had 52.4% with over 55 million barrels.
In terms of natural gas, Reeves County ascended to the top spot with Midland County taking third in state production.
