BUCKNER CHILDREN & FAMILY SERVICES: Peace in the storm

Peace

Buckner Children & Family Services issued the following announcement.

Several years ago, I was traveling to my parents’ home in northern Wisconsin. I was about 300 miles away driving through snow. Gradually, the snow continued to increase until I was driving in whiteout blizzard conditions. It was terrifying. I could only see inches in front of me, but I knew stopping was just as dangerous because the cars behind me wouldn’t see me until it was too late. I crept along the road carefully, praying for God to give me wisdom and safety. Remarkably, I felt peace even during the storm.

What are you anxious about today? For many of us, our thoughts and actions may be turned toward the coronavirus that is spreading globally and through the U.S. New recommendations for social distancing may be creating new experiences for you as children are home from school and many businesses are choosing to work remotely until the threat passes.

It can be easy during this time to focus on the uncertainty and give in to fear, anxiety, sadness or even depression. These are all natural reactions and you should allow yourself the space and time to work through them. But as you do, try to realign those emotions to the promises God gives us.

Remember that God promises to be near you in the storm. He is not absent and can give you the peace to get through the next few weeks of uncertainty. His peace will not eliminate the threat, but it will guide you as we go through uncharted territory and keep you in the right frame of mind – one focused on God and the promise that he is near.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:6-7
