Last season, senior first baseman and designated hitter Logan Thompson was plying his trade on the Lee Senior High junior varsity baseball team.

Apparently, one year can make a huge difference.

“He had unbelievable power. He was just trying to get consistency out of the movements of his body and coordination,” Lee head coach Brian Roper told the Midland Reporter-Telegram recently. “He has worked hard. He worked hard over the summer and it’s paying off for him now.”

Thompson took it upon himself to conduct off-season workouts and eat more healthily. He eventually lost 30 pounds and plays at his current weight of 220 pounds.

Thompson said he really tried to change his body after receiving feedback from baseball coaches at camps.

“They would say, ‘Your hitting is really great,’” Thompson told the Midland Reporter-Telegram. “‘We just want you to be a little better at fielding or faster.’ You take those notes and you go and try to work on them.”

Thompson has quickly emerged as a fearsome slugger in the middle of the Rebel’s lineup.
