The Midland Chamber of Commerce made the following announcement on Dec. 13:
Student Artists from across Midland participated in the inaugural City-Wide Fourth Grade Children’s Calendar Contest. This contest was open to all 4th grade MISD and Midland Private School students.
Approximately 200 contestants submitted a watercolor image of a Midland, Texas landscape scene. Of those entries, 36 semifinalists were identified and twelve finalists were selected for publication in the ACM Children’s Calendar, with four honorable mentions being recognized.
A reception for the children, their family, friends and teachers was held on Wednesday, December 4th with the host, Arts Council of Midland Board and staff, providing seasonal refreshments and holiday music played by William Dorman who is a 6th grade student at Trinity School of Midland.
At 6:00 pm, ACM Executive Director Danny Holeva announced the finalists while Georgia Wempe, Events & Program Coordinator, handed out personalized certificates to the children as a keepsake. In addition, a professionally framed, matted and displayed exhibit of the work was seen by the 150+ attendees in the ACM gallery. Each student was able to take home their framed artwork as the evening festivities ended.
Full-color Calendars for 2020 featuring the 12 watercolor paintings by students were reproduced. In addition, an image of the paintings, the artist’s name, age, school and teacher was printed on the outside page of the calendars. Images for the calendar are perforated with prints easily separated and suitable for framing. Underwriting of the calendar printing was made possible through the generosity of Sam L. Majors Jewelers. All proceeds from calendar sales will benefit participating Art Classrooms.
Calendars are still available for purchase by contacting the Arts Council at 432-687-1149 or email events@acmidland.org. The cost is $15 per calendar or $20 for two calendars
