The Midland Health Department has reported a second measles case in an adult resident in Midland County. The potential exposure site identified is the Midland International Air & Space Port, specifically from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 7, 2025.

According to health officials, measles symptoms generally appear seven to 21 days post-exposure. Common symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, Koplik spots inside the mouth, and a red rash. The disease is contagious from four days before the rash until four days after it emerges.

The Midland Health Department is working to limit further transmission. They are conducting contact tracing and informing individuals who may have been exposed. In coordination with state health officials, they are monitoring the situation, providing fact sheets and FAQs via their website and social media.

Individuals who suspect exposure or are symptomatic are advised to stay home, contact healthcare providers in advance, and consider undergoing testing to avoid further spreading the virus. Monitoring for symptoms should continue for up to three weeks following exposure.

Vaccination remains the primary preventive measure against measles. The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) is recommended for those without prior immunization. Although no special vaccination clinics are currently in place, residents should verify their vaccination records. The MMR vaccine can potentially prevent or lessen symptom severity when administered soon after exposure. Additionally, immune globulin can be administered to high-risk individuals within six days of exposure to help prevent infection.

The health department encourages residents to stay informed through their website and social media channels. "For more information on measles, visit our website or contact the Midland Health Department at 432-681-7613," they stated. They also plan to provide updates on their Facebook page.
