Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Shrine has announced its schedule for the Easter Triduum, a three-day period commemorating the final days of Jesus Christ's life, death, and resurrection. This information was shared in an April 13 Facebook post.
According to the post, the Easter Triduum will commence on April 17, Maundy Thursday in the Catholic tradition. Commonly referred to as Holy Thursday, this day marks the Last Supper when Jesus celebrated a final Passover seder with his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion. Our Lady of Guadalupe will hold a Mass celebrating the Last Supper and the washing of feet at 6 p.m., followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in All Saints Hall until midnight.
The church will join Christians worldwide on April 18 to observe Good Friday, marking Jesus's crucifixion. Traditionally, no Mass is held on Good Friday. Instead, Our Lady of Guadalupe will conduct a live Stations of the Cross procession from Reyes Mashburn Nelms Park to the church at 10 a.m. At 3 p.m., believed to be the hour of Jesus's death, there will be Veneration of the Holy Cross. Parishioners are invited to meditate on the sorrows of Mary, mother of Jesus, at 7 p.m.
According to church representatives, attendees can bring flowers as a gesture of consolation for Jesus’s death. The Easter Triduum concludes with Holy Saturday on April 19, commemorating Jesus’s time in the tomb before his resurrection on Easter morning. A Mass celebrating the Easter Vigil is scheduled for 8:30 p.m., during which several individuals will be baptized or join the Catholic Church.
