A local company developing the first space-based cellular broadband network for mobile phones has received an investor relations (IR) award.

According to a LinkedIn post, at the IR Awards in the United States, AST SpaceMobile won the Best Retail IR Strategy award. The company attributed its success to its strong relationship with retail investors. "I'm so grateful for our Retail Investors," wrote Andy Johnson, the company's executive vice president. "Feels great to be recognized for our commitment to building these relationships. Fantastic work IR team!"

The IR—Impact website states that the award is dedicated to IR professionals who have improved service to retail investors, traditionally a neglected segment of their shareholder base. The award evaluated IR campaigns based on their retail shareholder communication strategy, how it differed from standard programs, and the outcomes of these efforts. The event was held on March 26 at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York City.

The website also noted that five other competitors were featured in the Best Retail IR Strategy category. These included EVgo, an electric vehicle charging network; Matador Resources Company, an oil company based in Dallas; ONEOK, an oil and gas midstream operator based in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Reddit, a social media site; and Robinhood Markets, a financial services company located in Menlo Park, California.
