The Midland Fire Department (MFD) has announced the completion of its central wellness center, as mentioned in a recent Facebook post.
According to the fire department, the March 4 post includes a video showcasing the facility. The new space is designed to provide firefighters with equipment to help them maintain their strength and health, ensuring they are ready to serve the community. "A big step forward in supporting our team’s health and fitness," the post said.
MFD paramedic engineer Landy Adkins explained that previously, firefighters exercised in a converted closet within the engine bay. "They told us about a year ago, all the funding went through and everything got approved by the city council," Adkins said. "It is happening in the budget."
Assistant Chief Michael Cota expressed that establishing the wellness center has been a long-standing aspiration for many firefighters. "The timeline has been every bit of six to seven years," Cota said.
Adkins further noted that firefighters can engage in various activities at the facility, ranging from cardio exercises to traditional gym workouts. He added that there remains an option for outdoor workouts. Cota emphasized that the center allows MFD's personnel to work out together. "We’re really excited about it," he said.
