The Midland Independent School District (MISD) has extended its congratulations to Legacy High School (LHS) speech and debate coach Joshua Wimberley for receiving the National Speech and Debate Association’s (NSDA) Don Crabtree Distinguished Service Award.
According to a February 28 Facebook post shared by LHS, the award is designed to recognize coaches who contribute significantly to the organization by building and expanding speech and debate. "Three cheers to Coach," the school said in the post.
The Permian Basin public school district expressed gratitude towards Wimberley for his years of service and dedication to student excellence in a separate Facebook post. Recipients of the Crabtree Award are those who have performed services such as hosting tournaments, writing or presenting about the association, recruiting new chapter schools, or contributing articles to the association’s "Rostrum" publication. The NSDA website states that individuals who earn 20 citations receive a special gold key, while those with an additional 50 citations are awarded a bronze plaque.
Wimberley's LinkedIn profile indicates that he has been coaching at Legacy since 2019 and also teaches part-time at Midland College (MC).
