Keep Midland Beautiful has announced that registration is now open for the Annual Great American Cleanup/Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off. The cleanup efforts are scheduled to take place from March 1 to May 31, according to a press release dated Feb. 24.
According to the press release, Keep Midland Beautiful is organizing this annual event in collaboration with Keep Texas Beautiful, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and Keep America Beautiful. The initiative aims to reduce litter and enhance public spaces across Midland. Individuals, families, businesses, social organizations, and community groups are encouraged to participate by selecting an area to clean. Volunteers will focus on city streets, neighborhoods, parks, Adopt-a-Spots, and vacant lots. Meanwhile, Adopt-a-Highway groups will manage highway cleanup efforts.
Registered participants will receive cleanup supplies such as trash bags and gloves. Those who sign up by March 14 will also receive a free T-shirt. The event is supported by sponsors including H-E-B, the City of Midland, Atmos Energy, Innospec, ONEOK, Chevron, Midland Health, EOG Resources, TruGreen, Plains Pipeline, Chick-fil-A, and Community National Bank.
"We have a lot of areas that need to be cleaned," said Joy Paulson, Executive Director of Keep Midland Beautiful. "So we need the community's help."
Keep Midland Beautiful was founded in 1983 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmental education and community engagement in Midland through litter prevention and beautification efforts. As an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful, it collaborates with the City of Midland and volunteers to maintain clean public spaces while encouraging recycling and reducing landfill waste. Their initiatives have led to a significant reduction in litter since their founding.
