The City of Midland has announced that Greg Snow will take on the role of chief of the Midland Police Department. Snow, who has been serving as interim chief since Seth Herman's departure in May 2024, will be the department's 12th chief since its establishment in 1941.

Snow's entire career, spanning 26 years, has been with the Midland Police Department. His experience includes roles such as Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and various leadership positions up to Interim Chief of Police.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong commented on Snow’s appointment: “Chief Greg Snow’s demonstrated leadership and results in driving down the crime rate of our community make him the right choice to lead the Midland Police Department. His commitment to safety, innovation, and community engagement will strengthen our department and enhance the trust between our officers and the people they serve. I am confident that under his leadership, MPD will continue to grow in setting the standard for excellence in public safety.”

District 2 Councilman John Norman expressed his support: “I want to express my sincere appreciation for the hiring of our new Chief of Police, Chief Greg Snow. It has been a pleasure working alongside him, and his enthusiasm for implementing new ideas is truly inspiring. His forward-thinking approach and commitment to positive change are evident, and his leadership promises great progress for our community. I am excited to see the impact of his vision and am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such a dedicated and dynamic leader.”

During his time as interim chief, Snow implemented initiatives like Operation Cruise Control and Operation Intersection Intervention aimed at improving road safety through targeted programs against speeding.

According to January reports from MPD, Part 1 crimes decreased by 10.43% in 2024 compared to 2023, marking a significant reduction in serious crimes.

At-large Councilman John Burkholder emphasized the importance of strong leadership: “Public safety is a top priority for Midland, and strong leadership at the helm of our police department is critical to that mission,” he said. "Chief Snow brings the experience, vision, and dedication needed to keep our community safe and build strong relationships with our residents."

Greg Snow grew up in Midland where he resides with his wife and three daughters. The police department is budgeted for 275 employees with proposed expenditures for fiscal year 2025 set at $42.359 million—a slight increase from FY 2024.
