Centers for Children and Families has named Midland native Hunter Haynie as its new Development Director. Haynie brings experience from previous roles at United Way of Midland and Midland College. In his new position, he will work to expand community engagement, donor support, and event coordination.
“My focus is on connecting with people who are unfamiliar with the agency, and building long-term relationships if it’s in their heart to support mental health in our community,” Haynie said during an interview with Midland Times.
The organization, established in 1957, provides counseling services for individuals ages 3 and up, including parent education, crisis intervention, play and art therapy, post-adoption support, Kids First supervised visitation, education and outreach, eating disorder support, couples counseling, and divorce recovery. In 2024, Centers conducted over 10,000 counseling sessions and continues to offer free services to military members and veterans.
Centers for Children and Families is hosting its annual Boots, Barrels & Beads fundraiser on April 4 at the Petroleum Club of Midland. The event, themed "The Big Easy meets the Permian Basin," encourages attendees to don sequins, boas, bowties, and boots to embrace a lively fusion of New Orleans and West Texas, said Haynie.
The evening will feature food, live music, and a live auction and paddle raise with the Cowboy Auctioneers. Proceeds will support mental health counseling and support services for individuals in the community. Longtime supporters of the annual Boots, Barrels, and Beads fundraiser include Grant and Fran Billingsley, and numerous others.
Haynie said that Executive Director Kristi Edwards has led the organization for 26 years, guiding a team dedicated to providing mental health services in Midland and Odessa.
“I’m ecstatic to be here and to support efforts in the community,” Haynie said. “One thing I look forward to is working with an amazing team and leader to support mental health in our community and beyond.”
The organization is also seeking volunteers to assist with events, administrative tasks, and community outreach efforts. Those interested in volunteering can visit the website or contact the organization directly.
