This story starts way back in the 90’s…1992--1993 to be exact.

My name is Mandi Dawson and my husband's name is Steven Dawson.

We are originally from Monahans, Texas–born and raised, and now have been in Midland, almost nine years. We were married on May 26, 2011 and have been married for almost 14 yrs.

We met as seven or eight year olds in church, and we grew up there together as well as school. We are the same age, but he was a grade ahead of me (I’m a December baby).

One time when I was 12 years old, Steven asked me to be his girlfriend and I gladly accepted. As a church youth group, we attended a Midland Angels game at Christensen Stadium, and at some point we ended up under the bleachers, and both shared our first kiss!

We were caught by the pastor, of all people! It was young puppy-love, and of course it didn’t last. Time went on and so did we.

He went on to marry another girl from our little town and I married another boy from out of town. He had a child with his first wife, and I had three children through two different marriages and a long term relationship.

As fate would have it, back in 2010 I was at a crossroads and decided to move back to my hometown to raise my kids and slow down a little. I joined a co-ed softball team. Guess who was on a rival team? So we met again.

As we were passing the courthouse in our tiny little town 16 days later, the song “Why wait?” by Rascal Flatts was playing. We made a U-turn into the courthouse at 4:45 pm, and by 5:15 pm we were married. The rest is history, almost 14 years and now 3 more kids later!

Yes he was my first kiss, and I was his. Even though it took longer, and many detours, fate still knew best.
