The academic calendar for the 2025-26 school year has been finalized following approval at the Midland Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees meeting on January 21.
According to a news release, the board opted for the calendar that received the most support from 1,422 survey responses. Teachers will commence the upcoming school year on August 4, with students starting on August 19. The final day of school for students is scheduled for Memorial Day. The calendar includes 75,600 instructional minutes for students and 187 contract days for teachers, along with two designated bad weather days.
In other developments, the board approved a rezoning of attendance boundaries to ensure balanced enrollment across the district and accommodate future growth. This decision affects junior feeder patterns for Bunche, South, and Henderson elementary schools, as well as Goddard Junior High School. Students currently zoned to San Jacinto Junior High School will remain within their existing zone.
The board also sanctioned a collaboration between Angelo State University and the district aimed at enhancing cybersecurity measures. This initiative will leverage the Angelo State Regional Security Operations Center (RSOC) to bolster the district's capacity to monitor, detect, and respond to cybersecurity threats while providing educational resources in cybersecurity. The hiring of Jackson Walker LLP as legal representation for the school board was postponed and will be revisited in a future meeting.
